Getting Started
Famly is a digital cooperative platform that helps Nigerians save more, buy smarter, and pay bills easier. We combine individual and group savings, group buying deals, bill payments, Buy Now Pay Later for utilities, and referral rewards — all in one app, built on cooperative principles rooted in the ajo and thrift tradition.
Famly is available on three platforms:
- Android: Download from Google Play Store (search "Famly Coop")
- iOS: Download from the App Store (search "Famly Coop")
- Web: Visit app.famlycooperative.com on any browser
Yes, there is a one-time membership fee of ₦2,000. This gives you lifetime access to all Famly features including contributions, savings plans, group savings, group deals, bill payments, Buy Now Pay Later, and referral rewards. There are no monthly subscription fees or hidden charges.
Nigerian regulations require all financial platforms to verify users through NIN or BVN. This protects everyone from fraud and ensures the platform is secure. Your data is encrypted and stored securely in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).
Verification usually takes 3–10 seconds. If it fails, check that your details match exactly (no nicknames) and try again after 3–6 hours. You can try BVN if NIN fails, or vice versa.
Contributions
When you contribute to Famly, your money is automatically split 60:40:
- 60% goes to your Available Contributions Balance, you can withdraw this at any time
- 40% goes to your Locked Contributions Balance, which is pooled together for a profitable venture/scheme.
The split gives you flexibility for everyday needs while building long-term wealth through collective investment. Returns on the Locked Contributions Balance are paid out as dividends to all contributing members at the end of the financial year.
The minimum contribution amount is ₦5,000. You can contribute as oftenand as much as you like, and each contribution adds to your streak counter.
Your Available Contributions Balance (60% of contributions) can be withdrawn at any time with no penalties. Your Locked Contributions Balance (40%) is invested until the end of the financial year, when it is unlocked and dividends are paid to members.
Your Locked Contributions Balance is pooled with other members' contributions and placed in safe, ethical, CBN/SEC-regulated instruments such as treasury bills and money market funds. These are low-risk investments that provide steady returns while protecting your principal.
Your Locked Contributions Balance earns returns from collective investments. The exact return varies based on investment performance and is calculated transparently. Your Available Contributions Balance does not currently earn returns — it is simply your accessible funds.
Individual Target Savings
Individual Target Savings (also called FamTarget) lets you save towards a personal financial goal, contribute any amount at your chosen frequency, and track your progress in real time. Whether it is rent, a new phone, school fees, or a holiday — give your money a name and a deadline.

- Enter a plan name, target amount, start date, end date, and contribution frequency
- Start saving towards your goal
Yes. You can create unlimited Individual Target Savings goals and run them simultaneously. Each goal is tracked separately with its own progress bar and milestones.
Group Target Savings
Group Target Savings lets you save together with friends, family, or colleagues towards a shared goal — a wedding, Eid celebration, family reunion, pilgrimage, or any shared financial target. One member creates the group, sets the goal, and invites others to contribute. Everyone can track collective progress in real time.
- Go to Savings → Create Group Target
- Enter a group name, description, target amount, deadline, and reminder frequency
- Invite members via a shareable link (WhatsApp, SMS, or email)
- Members join and start contributing
No. You can set equal contributions (everyone saves the same amount) or flexible contributions (each member sets their own target based on their capacity).
Yes, you can leave a group at any time. However, contributions you have already made remain within the group.
When the target is reached, all members are notified. The group creator can decide to close the goal, extend it, or create a new one.
FamLock Savings
FamLock is a fixed savings plan that lets you lock away surplus funds for a set period and earn returns at maturity. If you have money you do not need in the short term, FamLock puts it to work instead of leaving it sitting idle.
- Choose an amount to lock and a lock-in period
- The indicative return rate is displayed before you confirm
- Your funds are locked for the chosen period and cannot be withdrawn early
- Returns are credited to your account automatically when the lock-in period ends
No. Funds committed to a FamLock plan cannot be withdrawn before the lock-in period expires. This is what makes the plan effective — the discipline of a fixed commitment ensures your money grows uninterrupted.
Returns are not guaranteed at a specific rate, as they are subject to investment performance. The indicative return rate shown when you create the plan reflects current projections and is updated periodically.
Referral Programme
You receive a unique referral link to share with friends. When someone signs up using your link, completes identity verification, pays the ₦2,000 membership fee, and makes their first contribution (minimum ₦5,000), you earn ₦90 commission and your friend receives a ₦40 welcome bonus.
No limit. Refer as many friends as you like and earn ₦50 for each successful referral.
Your ₦90 commission is credited to your account as referral rewards within 24 hours after your friend completes all requirements: sign-up, identity verification, membership payment, and first contribution.
Go to Referrals in the app and tap Share. You can share via WhatsApp, SMS, email, or copy the link to share anywhere. The link works across Android, iOS, and the web app, and automatically directs new users to download and register.
Yes. Your referral dashboard shows total referrals, successful referrals, pending referrals, and total earnings, along with which steps each referred friend has completed.
Bill Payments
You can pay:
- Airtime — MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9mobile
- Data bundles — all networks
- Electricity — AEDC, EKEDC, and other distribution companies
- Cable TV — DSTV, GOtv, Startimes, ShowMAX
Convenience fees apply to certain bill payment transactions. Where a fee applies, it is displayed clearly and transparently before you confirm the payment, so you always know the total cost before proceeding.
Airtime and data are delivered within seconds. Electricity tokens and cable TV subscriptions are processed within minutes. You will receive an email confirmation with a receipt for all transactions.
Yes. Enter the recipient's phone number for airtime and data, meter number for electricity, or smart card number for cable TV. You can pay bills for anyone.
If a payment does not go through, your money is safe and will be refunded to your wallet within 24 hours. Contact support if you need immediate assistance.
Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)
Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) is a feature for active contributing members that allows you to pay for essential utilities — airtime, data, electricity, and cable TV — when your wallet balance is insufficient. Famly covers the payment immediately on your behalf, and the amount is recovered from your subsequent contributions automatically. You do not need to apply or request it — it appears as an option within the bill payment flow when your balance is too low.
BNPL is available to members who have been actively contributing to Famly for a minimum of 90 consecutive days. This ensures the benefit is extended to members who have demonstrated a consistent commitment to the cooperative.
BNPL is available exclusively for utility payments: airtime, mobile data, electricity tokens, and cable TV subscriptions. It cannot be used for contributions, savings plans, group deals, or cash withdrawals.
Yes, a small service charge applies when you use BNPL, displayed clearly before you confirm the transaction. Charges vary by utility type:
- Airtime: ₦25
- Data: ₦25
- Electricity: ₦100
- Cable TV: ₦250
The amount advanced is recovered automatically from your Available Contributions Balance or your next contributions. You do not need to make a separate repayment — it is handled in the background.
Yes. If your contribution history falls below the eligibility threshold, your account is suspended, or you have an outstanding unpaid BNPL balance, access to the feature will be suspended until the relevant conditions are resolved.
Group Deals
Group Deals let members buy products collectively at discounted prices. When enough members join a deal, everyone gets the product at a lower cost than buying individually. Deals include foodstuffs, household appliances, electronics, and other items.
Browse active deals in the Deals section, select one you are interested in, review the details (price, minimum participants, deadline), and join. You will be notified when the deal reaches its minimum participation level.
If a deal does not reach its minimum by the deadline, it is cancelled and all payments are refunded to participants' wallets. No penalties apply.
When you join a deal, you provide your delivery address. Products are delivered directly to your address once the deal closes successfully. In some cases, you may also have the option to collect from a designated location.

Yes. Your funds are held in regulated accounts, all data is encrypted, and we comply with CBN and NDPR regulations. We do not store your card details — these are handled by our regulated payment gateway (Monnify). All transactions are monitored for fraud under our layered security framework.
Yes. Your NIN, BVN, and all sensitive data are encrypted and stored securely. We do not share your data with third parties except as required by law or as disclosed in our Privacy Policy. We are fully compliant with Nigeria's Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Technical Questions
Yes. Your account works across all platforms. You can start on Android, continue on your laptop (web), and check on iOS. Everything syncs automatically. However, you can only use one device at a time
Yes, an internet connection is required for most features.
Try these steps in order:
- Close and restart the app
- Check your internet connection
- Update to the latest version from the Play Store or App Store
- Clear the app cache: Settings → Apps → Famly → Clear Cache
- Uninstall and reinstall the app — your data is safe on our servers
If the issue persists, contact support with details of what happened.
Yes. Request account deletion by contacting support. We will process your request within 30 days and delete your data as required by NDPR. You will need to withdraw any remaining balance before deletion can be completed.
